Murder Trial in Fabian Case: Witness Contradicts Child's Father at Rostock Regional Court

Witness Stands by Explosive Testimony Regarding Fabian's Father

In the murder trial concerning eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow, a longstanding friend of the child's father maintained his account on day 16 of proceedings before the Rostock Regional Court. As fr.de reports, the 38-year-old witness was not swayed from his version even when questioned by presiding judge Holger Schütt.

The witness had previously testified to police that Matthias R. — the father of the dead child — had suspected defendant Gina H. by telephone shortly after Fabian's body was discovered. According to the witness, this conversation took place on 14 October, the day the body was found. Matthias R. stated that Gina H. could be responsible for his son's death. The witness then drove to him because Matthias R. had been drinking. He describes him as appearing sober and clear-headed, but furious.

Matthias R. Revised His Assessment After Remand in Custody

Gina H. was taken into remand in custody in early 2026. According to the witness, Matthias R. subsequently changed his earlier assessment: he now considered her innocent because there were too many contradictions and no evidence.

This behaviour contradicts the statement that Matthias R. himself made in court weeks earlier. He declared, completely unexpectedly, that he considered Gina H. innocent. Judge Schütt publicly doubted his sincerity. The prosecution subsequently initiated an investigation against Matthias R. on suspicion of perjury.

When Judge Schütt asked the witness why Matthias R. was now telling a different story, the witness replied: "I've thought about it for a long time, but I don't know — really."

Defendant Is Said to Have Viewed Fabian as an Obstacle

The prosecution accuses Gina H. of murdering Fabian on 10 October 2025. The alleged motive is the defendant's conviction that the boy stood in the way of winning back the child's father. Matthias R. and Gina H. had been in a relationship for several years before he separated from her in August 2025.

In the meantime, the two are a couple again — whilst the trial is still ongoing. Matthias R. was present in the public gallery on day 16 of the hearing and shook his head when the witness gave his account, as stern.de reports.

The trial is being conducted before the Rostock Regional Court. Sources cited by fr.de include the Rostock Regional Court, Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Nordkurier, Stern, and the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
