Murder trial in Fabian case: Defendant Gina H. breaks her silence for the first time
In the Rostock murder trial involving eight-year-old Fabian, defendant Gina H. has made a statement for the first time and rejected the charges against her.

As reported by DER SPIEGEL (Justice & Crime), Gina H. submitted a written statement before the Rostock Regional Court for the first time since the trial began. The 30-year-old is accused of stabbing eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow on 10 October 2025 at a pond near Klein Upahl – approximately 15 kilometres south of Güstrow – and subsequently setting his body on fire.
The defendant rejected all charges against her. In the statement read out in court, she stated that she first saw the corpse discovery site near the pond on 13 October 2025, three days after the alleged crime.
Witness statements incriminate the defendant
This contradicts witness testimony from the trial to date: several people stated they had seen the woman on 10 October driving her distinctive pickup vehicle on a dirt road near the discovery site. Gina H. admitted that she had been in both Güstrow and in the vicinity of Klein Upahl that day. However, had she committed the crime, she would certainly "not have been so stupid" as to drive past witnesses, she explained.
Regarding 13 October, she recounted having been at the discovery site together with two different friends. These individuals had urgently advised her against calling the police. She said she only reported the discovery on 14 October.
Relationship with the child's father as possible motive
The possible motive is said to be connected to the defendant's relationship with Fabian's father. "It was love at first sight," Gina H. said of him. The relationship had been harmonious at first – also towards the child. The couple had moved in together quickly. Later, tensions arose according to her account: following an unplanned pregnancy, she had had an abortion. Although the decision had been made jointly, she subsequently felt abandoned and suffered from depression.
Explanation of blood traces in the car
The defendant also commented on a crucial piece of evidence: investigators had found a roll of kitchen paper with the boy's blood in the rear door of her vehicle. Gina H. explained that Fabian and her son, who was approximately the same age, got along well. During a joint outing to a bathing lake in August 2025, Fabian had suffered a minor injury to his foot. She had treated the barely bleeding wound with a plaster and dabbed it with a roll of kitchen paper without tearing off the sheet from the roll.
Circumstantial evidence trial underway since end of April
The trial before the Rostock Regional Court began on 28 April. Since then, dozens of witnesses have been heard and numerous expert reports have been introduced. The final hearing date scheduled so far is 10 September – when a verdict could be handed down.
