A 32-year-old woman in Germany has been arrested after initially claiming that her three-month-old baby had been abducted. The child was later found dead.

The investigation into the death of a three-month-old baby in Germany has taken a dramatic turn. The 32-year-old mother Diana L. has been arrested after initially claiming that her son Adrian had been abducted by an unknown person from his pram in front of her house.
On 18 June, the woman stated that she had left little Adrian briefly in the pram in front of the flat in order to carry shopping bags up to the second floor. When she returned, the child had disappeared. She then alerted the authorities and claimed that an unknown person had abducted the baby.
This report triggered a major search and rescue operation. Police, fire brigade, helicopters, drones and approximately 40 specially trained search and rescue dogs were deployed. The search ended on 19 June when the lifeless body of the baby was found in or next to the Rankbach stream, approximately 500 metres from the family home in Renningen in south-western Germany.
After the discovery of the body, the mother came into the investigators' sights. The authorities had already placed her under observation and were examining the possibility that she had abandoned the baby and staged the abduction. She was now arrested as a suspect for murder. A special unit of the homicide division was formed for the case.
In the investigation, a three-dimensional digital model of the area is also being used to precisely reconstruct the movements before the child's death. According to the 32-year-old's mother, her daughter had returned from shopping at a Rewe supermarket shortly before the incident, which is approximately 800 metres from the flat.
Neighbours described Diana L.'s flat as small and neglected. Loud quarrels with her former partner are said to have frequently taken place there. "It was always chaos there," said one neighbour.
The 32-year-old is said to have only learned of her pregnancy in the fifth month, and the boy was born prematurely. Former colleagues reported that she had tried to find a new flat in order to leave behind her difficult living conditions and start a new life with her new partner.
