During an operation in Remscheid (North Rhine-Westphalia), a 42-year-old man was fatally injured. Officers opened fire on him after he had thrown tools at the responding emergency personnel.
The incident occurred on Sunday. Initially, the 42-year-old allegedly threatened two girls with pepper spray and subsequently sprayed the irritant gas in the direction of the police officers who had arrived. He then fled on foot.
A short time later, the officers encountered the man again. They deployed a Taser, which however missed its target. The 42-year-old then threw tools at the police officers. One officer subsequently opened fire. Despite immediate resuscitation measures being initiated, the man died at the scene.
The investigation is being conducted by Hagen police. The Wuppertal public prosecutor's office and Hagen police announced this in a joint statement.
