In the night leading into Thursday, a firearms deployment by police officers took place in Crailsheim. A 26-year-old man drew a knife during a check and approached the officers on duty. The officers then fired multiple times and injured him.
The incident occurred near a petrol station in Schwäbisch Hall district. Two officers had stopped the young man. The State Criminal Police Office Baden-Württemberg did not disclose what prompted the check.
As the 26-year-old pulled the blade, the police officers repeatedly demanded that he drop the weapon. Instead, he is said to have walked directly towards the officers. Due to the acute threat to safety, the officers on duty fired. A resident reported to SWR that the incident then moved into a residential area. She heard shouts as well as detonations. An alleged stray shot is said to have also hit a vehicle – glass splinters were still visible at the scene.
The attacker was taken to a clinic with injuries. According to the State Criminal Police Office, there was no danger to life. The Public Prosecutor's Office Ellwangen and the State Criminal Police Office are conducting the investigation.
