Investigators in Merseburg have yet to establish the identity of a man who is believed to have stolen from a customer in a shop in January and subsequently withdrawn money from her account. After internal inquiries failed to yield results, officers have now involved the public.

The incident occurred on 30 January in a business on Straße des Friedens. A woman had her wallet in her rucksack when an unknown person took it. In addition to €170 in cash, it also contained a debit card and the corresponding PIN.

The offender used the stolen information to go to a cash machine in Frankleben. There he withdrew a total of €1,000 from the victim's account.

As previous investigations by Saalekreis police department did not enable identification, Halle (Saale) district court ordered the release of images of the suspect. Members of the public who can provide information about the person are asked to contact Saalekreis police department on 03461 446-0 or any other police station.
