The incident occurred in the Uerdingen district. A heated dispute had first broken out between the deceased and his relatives. A woman suffered slight injuries in the process. The emergency responders called to the scene arrived at the location where the 41-year-old immediately went at the officers and threatened them with his knife.
One of the two police officers then drew his service weapon and fired. The attacker suffered serious injuries and died shortly afterwards in hospital. The two officers remained uninjured in the incident.
