An armed man attacked a police officer with a sharp object in Frankfurt and was shot by colleagues.

Officers of the Frankfurt police force shot a man on Tuesday afternoon who is said to have attacked one of their colleagues with a sharp object, causing him light injuries to the face. The incident occurred around 4.00 p.m. local time (5.00 p.m. Greek time) on Kaisertor, a square directly opposite the city's main railway station.
According to a report in the newspaper Bild, the attack took place during a police check, which is regularly conducted in this area. A 35-year-old man attacked a police officer. The other officers present reacted immediately, fired at the perpetrator and neutralised him.
The injured officer was taken to hospital. German authorities provided no details regarding the identity of the man.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing shots and subsequently seeing a man lying on the ground, according to the German Press Agency (DPA).
The area where the incident occurred is frequently monitored by authorities in order to track down drug trafficking gangs.
