A 58-year-old man is standing trial in Freiburg after allegedly killing his daughter in a delusional state. The security proceedings were converted into criminal proceedings.

Before the Freiburg Regional Court, a 58-year-old man must answer for the death of his eight-year-old daughter. The act occurred on 11 October 2025 in Bollschweil im Breisgau.
According to the investigators' account, the defendant was under the influence of heavy drugs when he wanted to visit his former partner. She refused him entry to the flat. The man then took the child with him and locked himself in the room with her.
In the course of events, the 58-year-old is said to have cut his daughter's throat with a kitchen knife, injured her multiple times in the abdominal area, and struck her repeatedly with a spade-like object. A neighbour's rescue attempt failed. Shots fired by a police officer also failed to stop the attacker. The girl succumbed to her severe injuries.
After the act, the man ran out of the house naked and was arrested. He stated that he had consumed eight to ten joints daily. His blood tested positive for 31 micrograms of THC. A psychiatric assessment found him to have paranoid schizophrenia and a severe mental disorder triggered by cannabis use.
Initially, security proceedings had been opened because the first expert assessor found him not to be fully culpable. A second assessment, however, concluded that the defendant was fully culpable. The court then converted the proceedings into a criminal trial. The hearing was continued on Wednesday with a new main hearing.
The public prosecutor's office considers two murder elements to be met: treacherous conduct and base motives. The man had previously been admitted to a psychiatric institution in Emmendingen.
