As Google News DE — Crime (de) reports, a teenager is said to have driven his father's car in a residential street in Mainz-Gonsenheim in April 2024 without being in possession of a driving licence. His father was sitting in the passenger seat.
During what was supposedly a driving lesson, the vehicle struck a 56-year-old cyclist. The woman succumbed to her severe injuries at the scene of the accident.
The district court convicted the teenager of intentionally driving without a licence. Due to his age, the court issued only a caution — a verdict that the prosecutor's office did not accept.
According to a court spokesman, the prosecutor's office has filed an appeal against the verdict. It had originally investigated the minor and his father for negligent manslaughter. At the end of September, the case will be retried in the second instance before the Mainz regional court.
Proceedings against the father at the district court have not yet been concluded. The prosecutor's office requested a penal order against him for negligent manslaughter in conjunction with abetting driving without a licence.
