Five days before the Berlin state parliament election, the Berlin state prosecutor's office ordered the search of the flat of an employee of AfD top candidate Kristin Brinker. According to t-online.de, the operation took place on 15 September in Berlin-Lichterfelde and was directed against a 48-year-old man.
The search was prompted by allegations of violations of explosives and weapons laws. According to the state prosecutor's office, however, investigators found no evidence supporting these original charges.
Instead, officers seized so-called incidental finds. According to Bild and B.Z., these consisted of drugs and Nazi memorabilia. These must now be examined by criminal technicians before their criminal relevance can be assessed.
AfD spokesman Ronald Gläser described the matter as a "private affair" and stated: "We are awaiting the outcome of the investigation." Top candidate Brinker expressed surprise, according to Bild: "I never had any indication that he was thinking along those lines. He is simply a collector."
