The number of politically motivated offences reached a new all-time high in the past year with almost 86,000 cases. The Federal Criminal Police Office has recorded the most crimes since record-keeping began in 2001.

The agency attributes the sharp increase primarily to the numerous elections in 2025. In addition to the federal election, several state elections took place. The political atmosphere in the country is currently extraordinarily charged.
Right-wing extremism remains the greatest threat according to the BKA's assessment. At the same time, the number of acts from the left-wing spectrum is rising markedly. The trend shows that politically motivated violence in Germany is continuing to increase.
The BKA assesses the situation as concerning. According to its evaluation, the high number of offences endangers the democratic foundations of society.
