German authorities arrested a Romanian national on Tuesday. The suspect is accused of establishing a foreign terrorist organisation. The arrest took place in the state of Baden-Württemberg in south-western Germany by police officers from that state as well as from Rhineland-Palatinate.
According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the man, who is classified as a "young adult" under German criminal law, is said to have founded a far-right organisation from the beginning of 2023. According to prosecutors, the stated objective was to overthrow the Romanian state and establish a state structure modelled on National Socialism in Romania, as reported by Știrile ProTV.
To recruit members, the suspect operated two channels on a German messaging service, primarily targeting young Romanians. Through these platforms, he is said to have called on subscribers and members to commit various crimes. According to the charge, these included the placement of graffiti with far-right symbols, inciting young people to self-harm, arson attacks on buildings used by migrants or LGBTQ+ people, and the killing of persons classified as "subhuman".
Furthermore, the arrested man is said to have published instructions on these channels for the manufacture of poisons and explosives, as well as instructions for making Molotov cocktails and car bombs. Investigators also accuse him of planning a serious act of violence endangering the state.
