A violent altercation broke out between several men at Riebeckplatz in Halle (Saale). Two Algerian men fought each other with weapons they were carrying, whilst a further man threatened the combatants.

Late on the evening of 16 June 2026, a violent altercation took place at Riebeckplatz in Halle (Saale). Several men became embroiled in a dispute and subsequently resorted to weapons.
According to police findings, a 35-year-old man from Algeria initially argued verbally with an unknown man. The dispute escalated quickly. Both combatants struck each other with objects they were carrying. When a group of other people approached the scene, a 32-year-old compatriot of the two quarrelling men also threatened the brawlers with an object he was carrying.
Whereupon all those involved left the scene. Police officers were able to locate some of them later. The men declined medical treatment. During an immediate search, officers found no weapons at the scene. The officers issued danger warning notices and directed the individuals away from the square.
The criminal investigation division has launched investigations on suspicion of dangerous assault and threatening behaviour.
