Police have arrested two suspects following an armed robbery at a jewellery shop in central Munich. The subsequent flight involved 40 police cars and a helicopter, as DPA reported on Wednesday.

A third man was also taken into custody. However, investigators are still examining whether this man was actually involved in Wednesday's crime, a police spokesman said.

The suspects are believed to have forcibly entered a jewellery shop and fled with goods worth several hundred thousand euros, according to police.

Investigators secured traces from the suspects' vehicle. The spokesman declined to confirm whether the stolen items were also found inside.

The men remain in police custody and are to be brought before an examining magistrate on Thursday.

The shop, which appears from the outside like an ordinary store and has no jewellery display cases in its window, specialises in luxury watches. No one was injured in the robbery.
