During a town festival in the Upper Palatinate, a 33-year-old local politician came into conflict with security personnel and police officers. Investigations are now under way for insult and resisting police.

Approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Regensburg, an incident occurred during the "Italian Night" in Burglengenfeld in which a 33-year-old AfD council representative was temporarily detained. The incident took place overnight into Monday at around half past one.
According to police, the local politician initially insulted a snack-bar vendor after the vendor apparently refused to provide alcohol. The festival's security personnel intervened and ejected the man from the grounds. He then allegedly responded to the security staff in partly xenophobic language.
When officers arrived and also issued an expulsion notice, the 33-year-old disregarded it. While police officers recorded his details, he allegedly attempted to seize an officer's baton. The responding officers then used physical measures to restrain the man and brought him, handcuffed, to the police station. He was only allowed to leave in the early morning hours.
During the operation, one police officer sustained minor injuries and received in-patient treatment. The state security authorities are now investigating on suspicion of insult and resistance to law enforcement officers.
Mayor Martin Antretter confirmed that the accused is a member of the town council. He condemned the behaviour in strong terms and emphasised that violence and racist statements would not be tolerated. A council member must set an example and has sworn an oath to the constitution. The town council met with him on Thursday, where he expressed regret for his actions and announced that he would issue a public statement.
