At the start of the trial, the defendant denied the charge. During his interrogation, he stated that he could not remember what had happened that night. Two days after the incident, he had turned himself in to police accompanied by his solicitor.
Long relationship, two children together
According to the court, the defendant and the victim had been in a relationship from 2013 to 2024 and had two children together. Shortly before the incident, the 37-year-old had taken the woman back into his flat following a longer separation. There are said to have been no physical assaults during this time; the 43-year-old had also wanted to resume the relationship.
The defendant acknowledged that there had been frequent disputes in the past, during which alcohol and drugs had played a role. The two children are currently in the care of his parents. Five further trial dates have been scheduled for the proceedings.
