In the Lower Saxony town of Bleckede, a pregnant deer was illegally killed at the end of May. The animal had been struck by a bolt from a crossbow. During a subsequent house search, officers seized the allegedly used firearm.
According to NDR.de, passers-by discovered the dead doe at the beginning of June. The projectile was still lodged in the body of the wild animal. Through systematic investigations with various weapons manufacturers, detectives were able to identify the type of bolt and trace it to a purchaser.
When police searched the suspects' flat, they found the crossbow there. The two people encountered during the raid, however, refused to make any statement regarding the allegations.
Officers are pursuing the case on charges of unlawful hunting and animal cruelty. The use of crossbows for hunting wild game is prohibited in the Federal Republic and violates applicable hunting law.
