Armed robbery at shop in Bernburg: suspect remanded in custody after days

Salzland district – A 44-year-old man from Köthen must answer for an armed robbery at a retail outlet in Bernburg. Investigators arrested the previously convicted German man following swift investigative work.

The incident occurred on 12 June 2026 shortly after 12:30 in the afternoon. An unknown man entered a shop in Bernburg and posed as an ordinary customer. He placed several items on the counter and asked to be served at the till. As soon as the cashier opened the till, the man struck: he roughly pushed the employee aside, grabbed the cash and made off with a low four-figure sum in euros. He then fled.

Officers from the police station in Salzland district secured surveillance footage on site. The state criminal investigation office quickly analysed the recordings. The trail led to a man from Köthen who was already known to police.

The Magdeburg public prosecutor's office ordered a search of the suspect's flat. During the search, officers found a large portion of the stolen sum as well as further evidence. Since the 44-year-old was not present during the search, investigators continued their efforts and eventually arrested him provisionally.

The Bernburg district court issued a remand in custody order at the request of the prosecution on 16 June 2026. The suspect was subsequently taken to a correctional facility.
