Wirecard trial: verdict possible by end of year
In the Munich criminal proceedings against former Wirecard chief executive Markus Braun and other defendants, the evidence phase is approaching its end. The presiding judge announced at the most recent hearing that he would set a final deadline for the defence to submit further motions in July. A court spokesman disclosed this.
This announcement suggests that the chamber regards the accusations as substantially clarified and wishes to bring the trial marathon to a close. A verdict could still be delivered this calendar year. The proceedings have already been running for almost four years. Around six and a half years have now passed since the collapse of the former DAX-listed company.
Braun and his co-defendants have repeatedly demanded new witnesses up to now. The planned deadline makes it harder for them to get further motions approved. The judges want to bring the trial to the finishing straight.
