Polish criminal officers and members of the border guard authority in Tuplice have arrested two men suspected of breaking into a property in Germany and stealing a vehicle. The 28- and 52-year-old men face a prison sentence of up to ten years.
On Monday, 1 June, two perpetrators forcibly broke open a gate in the town of Gross in Germany and disabled the security devices of a BMW 5 Series to steal the vehicle. The car was valued at more than 25,000 złoty. The investigation was taken over by officers from the police station in Żary. As early as the next day, 2 June, they discovered a tow truck at a property in Trzebiel, on which the stolen BMW was located. Both vehicles were secured.
Thanks to targeted operational measures, the criminal investigators were able to identify two men as the perpetrators. On Tuesday, 9 June, border guards in Łęknica arrested the first suspect. The 28-year-old attempted to cross the Polish-German border without identification documents. On Wednesday, 10 June, Żary police officers arrested the second suspect, a 52-year-old man, in Trzebiel. Both were accused of theft involving burglary. The district court in Żary ordered pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the defendants. They face sentences of between one and ten years imprisonment.
