A 28-year-old and a 52-year-old man were arrested in Poland after they stole a high-value BMW in Germany. The men are accused of forcibly breaking into a vehicle in the town of Gross in Germany on 1 June after breaking open a gate. They took a BMW 5 Series worth more than 25,000 złoty.
Criminal officers from Żary took up the investigation and were able to find a tow truck carrying the stolen BMW in the town of Trzebiel as early as the next day, 2 June. Both vehicles were seized. Through targeted investigation, the officers were able to identify the two suspected perpetrators.
On 9 June, the 28-year-old suspect was arrested in Łęknica by members of the border protection authority. The man had attempted to cross the German-Polish border without identification documents. One day later, on 10 June, criminal officers from Żary arrested the second suspect, a 52-year-old, in Trzebiel.
Both men were charged with theft involving force against property. The district court in Żary ordered pre-trial detention for both. If convicted, the accused face a prison sentence of one to ten years.
