Second arrest warrant issued following knife attack in Stendal
A 23-year-old man from Syria has been held in pre-trial detention since the end of June. He is suspected of involvement in a bloody brawl behind the Altmark-Forum in Stendal. Officers from the Central Criminal Investigation Department arrested him on 25 June.
The altercation took place on the evening of 6 June. During the incident, a 27-year-old man from Tunisia suffered such severe injuries from knife stab wounds and blows that he required immediate medical treatment by emergency services.
Already on the day after the incident, specialist units arrested a first suspect, a 26-year-old Syrian, provisionally at his residence. During the subsequent search, officers found several pieces of evidence as well as a suspected murder weapon. The district court subsequently ordered him to be remanded in custody.
The district court also issued an arrest warrant against the 23-year-old recently identified, upon application by the public prosecutor's office. He was taken into a correctional facility.
The specialist unit of Stendal Police Inspectorate is continuing to investigate the case. For tactical reasons concerning the investigation, no further details have been disclosed.
