President Daniel Noboa spoke on 13 September 2026 following the capture of the man accused of assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Guasmo Sur, in Guayaquil, according to extra.ec. The incident reportedly occurred on 12 September and went viral on social media from Friday 11 September, which accelerated police intervention.
Through his Instagram account, Noboa posted a 13-second video that contrasts images from one of his interviews with footage of the suspect detained by the National Police. "Every aggressor, every criminal and every coward who takes advantage of the most vulnerable will be found, detained and brought before justice," wrote the president in the description of the post. He added: "whoever harms a child or destroys the peace of a family will not go unpunished".
The National Directorate of Family Care led the proceedings to locate the suspect, who was captured after allegedly abandoning his residence. The detained person was placed under the orders of the competent authority so that legal proceedings could continue.
Representatives of the Vice-Ministry of Human Development and the technical team of Special Protection went to the residence to address the family environment, provide psychological support and identify priority needs. The Police indicated in their report that episodes of violence had previously been recorded at the property.
For its part, the municipal company Segura EP activated the Management of Social Fabric Reconstruction and the directorates of the Social Axis of the Municipality of Guayaquil. The entity confirmed that it will offer comprehensive support with legal advice, psychological assistance and social work, and called on the public to use the 181 line to report cases of domestic violence.
