Two residents shot dead leaving gated complex on motorcycle in north Guayaquil

According to expreso.ec, Jonathan Alexander Erazo Morán, 31, and Raquel Estefanía Arias Álava, 34, were killed on the afternoon of Friday, 2 October 2026 when they attempted to leave the Colina del Sol residential complex on a pink motorcycle. The development is located at kilometre 12.5 on the road to Daule, in northern Guayaquil.

The attackers opened fire when the couple had barely advanced three metres beyond the boundaries of the residential community. Erazo Morán died at the scene of the crime. Arias Álava initially survived and was taken to a health centre, although her prognosis was guarded; hours later she also died.

A police source cited by the outlet reported that the alleged gunmen were travelling in a red double-cab pickup truck. At the time of publication, those responsible had not been located.

A neighbour from the complex recounted that officers ordered that nobody enter or leave the residential community on suspicion that the attackers had taken refuge inside. "The police ordered that nobody leave or enter the residential complex because supposedly the killers ran away and hid somewhere. They searched house by house, as if they had hidden under stones, but they never found them; nobody can explain how they managed to escape," the resident said.

The same neighbour indicated that uniformed officers entered his home and that of a relative to verify that the suspects were not there. According to comments in neighbourhood groups, the couple lived on one of the first blocks of the residential complex, near a shop.

The National Police reported that both victims had criminal records, without providing further details at the time of publication.

Hours after the double homicide, tension in the gated complex remained palpable. Security guards maintained strict controls at the entrance. A resident who left accompanied by her son claimed to have witnessed the incident. "If we adults are frightened, I cannot imagine how much more a child who does not understand what is happening must be," she said.

A relative of the victims left the residential complex on Saturday morning and preferred not to make statements about the incident. Another resident summed up the general mood: "It affected everyone, whether out of fear or for whatever reason, but people are frightened knowing that anyone could have suffered the consequences."
