According to eluniverso.com, on the morning of Saturday 12 September a police pursuit in northern Guayaquil left four suspects arrested, one of them deceased, following the report of a person attacked with a firearm during a robbery.
The operation was initiated around 06:00 following receipt of a report of a person attacked with a firearm during a robbery. The National Police activated its units and began tracking through the video surveillance system of Segura EP.
Security cameras recorded that the incident originated in the Los Ceibos sector and extended through the streets of Sauces and La Garzota. In the Atarazana circuit, uniformed officers and Segura EP vehicles managed to intercept the vehicle in which the suspects were travelling. During the interception an exchange of gunfire took place.
The Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the police action resulted in the capture of four suspects, two of them injured. The authorities also seized a pistol and the vehicle used, which showed damage to the tyres and engine.
In the afternoon hours, Police Commander of Zone 8 Walter Villaroel reported that one of the detainees died. Villaroel also noted that a patrol car was hit by two bullets and another police vehicle was damaged after colliding with a private automobile.
The Police specified that the victim of the initial robbery did not sustain serious injuries from the gunshot received.
