Sergeant wounded in armed attack in north-west Guayaquil remains in intensive care

A sergeant with the National Police was wounded on the afternoon of Friday 11 September, after two men on a motorcycle opened fire on a patrol in the Sergio Toral cooperative, in the north-west of Guayaquil, according to reporting by extra.ec.
The incident occurred at approximately 16:58. Officers from the Nueva Prosperina district were following the two individuals—who were circulating in a suspicious manner—when the suspects took a third-order road and fired at one of the police vehicles.
The officer was rushed to Monte Sinaí hospital. He was subsequently transferred to another health facility. On Saturday 12 September, personnel from the same district confirmed that the agent "is in intensive care (ICU)".
In addition to the sergeant's health status, extra.ec reported that on Saturday it became known that people possibly linked to the attack had been apprehended. The authorities from the district indicated that details of those arrests would be made public later, given that there are still ongoing actions related to the case.
