Police operation at Seinäjoki vocational school: underage person carrying replica firearm and knife

facebook.com reported that the Rastaantaipale campus of Seinäjoki Educational Consortium Sedu was subjected to an operation involving several police units on Monday morning due to a suspected firearm at the school.

Rector Pasi Artikainen confirms that three or four police cars arrived at the scene before 9 o'clock. The report of a possible firearm had been made by another student in the same class.

– We received a tip from another student and subsequently reported it to the authorities, Artikainen says.

Police arrested an underage person from the scene, who was found to be in possession of a replica firearm resembling a real handgun and a knife. The suspect had not threatened members of the public with the firearm or knife. Iltalehti was the first to report on the matter.

Police suspect the person of aggravated firearms crime and unlawful possession of an object suitable for serious injury. The charges may change or be refined as the investigation progresses.

The student in possession of the weapons had already managed to get to their classroom before the operation. The situation did not involve any threats or threatening calls to the school. The suspected student was apparently attending a YTO class, meaning common general education lessons for all students.

– The situation was resolved quickly and the student has been removed from the school premises, the rector reports.

The school is currently conducting a follow-up investigation into the incident. Counselling support is being offered to students and staff if needed.
