Three minors facing justice after assault on a police officer

Two 16-year-old adolescents were referred on Tuesday in the investigation into the violent assault on a trainee police lieutenant, according to Actu17. The young officer was struck on 1 October in Paris during a school blockade operation. One of the suspects is suspected of causing the officer to fall, the other of filming and distributing the incident on social media.

The police officer found herself separated from her colleagues on Avenue Gambetta during a public order operation. Confronted by several individuals, she was knocked to the ground and then kicked repeatedly. The Paris prosecution opened an investigation entrusted to the territorial police for group violence against a person holding public authority.

The two 16-year-old suspects, unknown to the justice system, were arrested early in the week and placed in custody. The first is suspected of delivering a "sweep" – the gesture causing the fall. The second allegedly recorded the assault before uploading it online. Referred on 13 October, they are summoned to appear before the juvenile court on 23 February 2027.

The prosecution had requested the placement of the two minors under judicial supervision, with several conditions: prohibition on protesting, obligation to attend school, prohibition on being outdoors between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., and prohibition on contact with co-perpetrators. The children's court judge refused. He ordered a provisional judicial educational measure for the one suspected of filming, and no measure for the other. The prosecution has appealed these orders.

A third 15-year-old minor, also unknown to the justice system, was placed in custody on 5 October. Suspected of kicking the police officer in the back, he is being prosecuted for violence against a public official resulting in an incapacity not exceeding 8 days. Two aggravating circumstances have been retained: the acts were committed as a group and during a protest.

The prosecution had requested judicial supervision for this minor as well. The children's court judge preferred a provisional judicial educational measure with a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The public prosecutor's office has appealed. The three adolescents will appear together before the juvenile court on 23 February 2027.
