Homophobic assault in the Marais: suspect charged with aggravated violence
A young man born in 2006 was charged after the assault on the president of the FLAG! association in Paris. He is placed under judicial supervision with several prohibitions.

TF1 Info reports that a young man, born in 2006 with no prior criminal record, was charged on Wednesday 2 September by the Paris prosecutor's office following an assault that occurred in the early hours of Saturday 29 August. He is being prosecuted for "aggravated violence" and "theft".
The victim is Pierre Picavet, a police officer and president of FLAG!, an association bringing together officers from the Interior and Justice ministries who campaign against LGBT-phobic discrimination and violence. He was attacked shortly before 4am at the exit of a bar in the Marais neighbourhood, in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. The prosecutor's office states that he had numerous wound marks — internal bleeding, open skull fracture — resulting notably from a bottle being thrown at him.
In his complaint, Picavet indicated that his assailant had hurled homophobic insults at him repeatedly. He had also declared his status as a police officer by showing his professional identification card, which did not, however, deter the suspect from continuing the attack, according to the public prosecution.
The suspect is placed under judicial supervision with a prohibition from appearing in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris, a prohibition from contacting the victim, and a prohibition from leaving mainland France. He must also comply with obligations to report to law enforcement and to undergo addiction treatment.
The violence is criminally aggravated because it was committed, according to the prosecutor's office, on account of the victim's sexual orientation or gender identity. The suspect's "manifest state of intoxication" and the use of "a weapon" constitute two additional aggravating circumstances held against him.
A judicial investigation was opened as early as the Monday following the assault, entrusted to an investigating judge, for violence resulting in total incapacity to work exceeding eight days, as well as for theft.
