A man in his early thirties was shot dead by police officers on Saturday morning in Beauvais after firing at members of the public and wounding an officer. Two investigations have been opened.

A man in his early thirties was killed by police officers on Saturday 19 September in Beauvais, following a series of gunshots on the public highway that wounded a law enforcement officer. The incident took place between 5 and 8 o'clock in the morning, according to information reported by lobservateurdebeauvais.fr.
Several witnesses reported seeing the individual riding a motorcycle, "acting very threatening and firing several shots with a handgun whilst riding his motorcycle", according to statements made by the prosecutor of the Republic Nicolas Septe.
Identified through the city's video surveillance system, the man was located at his home in the Saint-Jean district around 8 o'clock. As officers attempted to enter the residence, they came under "one or more shots of fire", wounding a police officer in the arm.
Faced with an individual described as "considerably agitated and threatening", law enforcement first resorted to standard warnings and then to an electric shock weapon, before using their service weapons. Following treatment by emergency services after the exchange of gunfire, the man died shortly after. Family members present in the residence were not injured.
According to initial investigation findings, the individual "had been released the day before from the Clermont psychiatric hospital".
The duty magistrate and prosecutor went to the scene. Two investigations have been opened: one to "determine the motives and reasons for the act", the other to "clarify the context of the use of weapons by police officers", with the assistance of forensic and scientific police resources.
The prosecutor's office wished to emphasise "the speed and composure of the police officers who intervened to apprehend this aggressive individual".
