A man in his thirties was killed by police during his arrest in Beauvais on Saturday 19 September, reports lyonne.fr citing the Oise public prosecutor's office.
Early in the morning, several witnesses reported an individual riding a motorcycle through the town, described as "very threatening" and having fired several gunshots from a handgun from his vehicle, according to the Oise Observatory. Police then located the suspect using the town's video surveillance cameras.
Law enforcement officers intervened at his home to carry out his arrest. Upon attempting to enter the premises, officers came under fire "from one or more shots", wounding one of them in the arm.
Nicolas Septe, public prosecutor at the Beauvais judicial tribunal, clarified that police officers had issued standard warnings and resorted to an electric shock weapon before using their service firearm, "after coming under several shots which the investigation will need to determine".
The man was attended to by emergency services following the intervention. He died shortly afterwards.
