Discharged from a psychiatric hospital the previous day
According to the account given by prosecutor Septe, the individual "had just been discharged" on Friday from a psychiatric facility. Faced with a suspect who was "considerably agitated and threatening", police attempted to neutralise him before "using their service weapons after coming under several shots".
After receiving care from emergency services following the operation, the man died shortly afterwards. Family members were present at the scene at the time of the events, but were not injured.
Two investigations opened
Following the events, two separate legal proceedings were initiated. The first was entrusted to Beauvais police station: it concerns acts of "violence and threats with a weapon" committed against residents, as well as an attempted homicide against police officers.
The second investigation, "relating to the use of weapons by police officers", was entrusted to the judicial police of Creil and the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) of Lille, in accordance with the standard procedure applicable in any death occurring in the course of a law enforcement intervention.
