A man in his thirties was killed by police on Saturday morning in Beauvais, in the Oise, during an attempted arrest, fr.news.yahoo.com reports. The prosecutor confirmed that the death resulted from a return of fire by law enforcement.
According to the prosecutor of Beauvais Nicolas Septe, the incident began when the individual fired multiple shots while riding a motorcycle. Located subsequently in an apartment, he opened fire again when police officers attempted to force their way in, "wounding a police officer in the arm", the prosecutor specified in a statement.
The officers first resorted to a taser, before using their service weapon. The man, treated by emergency services, died "shortly after" the shooting, according to the prosecutor.
Nicolas Septe also indicated that the individual "had just been released" the day before, on Friday, from a psychiatric hospital. An investigation has been opened.
