Suspected new femicide in Antibes: repeat offender placed under examination
A 62-year-old man, already convicted in 2011 of murdering his first wife, has been placed under examination for voluntary homicide by spouse in Antibes, in the Alpes-Maritimes. According to France Info, which obtained the information from the Grasse prosecutor's office, the facts were brought to the authorities' attention on Saturday 23 May.
The man had been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of his first wife before being released in 2022. He is now suspected of killing his new partner, aged 52.
It was he himself who alerted the emergency services on Wednesday morning, explaining that he had found his partner dead upon waking, at his side. The fire service was called by the 62-year-old, who provided no further immediate explanation for the circumstances of the death.
The Grasse prosecutor's office indicates that "initial findings revealed elements consistent with asphyxia syndrome". An autopsy is to be carried out shortly in order to determine the precise causes of death, the prosecutor's office confirmed.
