Police face false accusations during student protests

According to europe1.fr, twenty-four investigations have been assigned to the IGPN, the police oversight body, following images circulating on social media during student mobilisation last week. Police officers remain confident, believing that many of these accusations constitute false information.

The investigation concerning a student's hand being severed in Lens appears to be turning in favour of police. According to prosecutors, the teenager leaned down to pick up the grenade before it was fired, a use deemed lawful by the courts. The victim filed a complaint, which contests this version of events.

A widely shared scene showed a police officer apprehending a female student. Several LFI deputies denounced sexual violence. The young woman herself denied these accusations. The police officer has since filed a defamation complaint.

A 31-year-old woman also filed a complaint against a police officer, accusing him of touching her groin during a blockade. She was unable, however, to identify the officer or provide video evidence to support her allegations. One police officer believes that most complaints will be dismissed for lack of evidence of an offence.
