Drug trafficking network dismantled in Rennes: nine convicted, including eight years for "Eduard"
A court in Rennes has convicted nine people involved in a drug trafficking network linking France, Albania, Luxembourg and Spain.

According to Balkanweb, three women and six men appeared before the Rennes court this week for their involvement in a drug trafficking network operating between Finistère, Albania, Luxembourg and Spain.
Among the defendants, a student from Brest named Typhaine, detained for eighteen months, was sentenced on Friday 13 December to five years' imprisonment. Another protagonist, on the run in Spain and known under the name "Eduard", received eight years in prison.
According to the Rennes public prosecutor's office, Typhaine had travelled to Spain, Albania and Luxembourg. Investigators had uncovered "loading bags" in her possession, established that she was "handing them over" to other members of the network and that she was "handling banknotes". Before her arrest and nineteen months of pre-trial detention, the young woman was registered in the first year of a degree in Administrative and Social Economics (AES), with courses including notably "Statistics" and "History of Economics".
The dismantling of the Canadian encrypted messaging service "Sky ECC" also enabled investigators to access conversations revealing that the nine suspects, some of whom were of Albanian origin, were importing drugs from Spain. It is from this country that "Eduard", identified as the principal protagonist in the case, is currently on the run. His eight-year prison sentence will take effect upon the execution of his arrest warrant. The other defendants received suspended sentences.
