Family drug trafficking: release request denied in Rennes
A 22-year-old man, prosecuted for cannabis and cocaine trafficking with his family, has had his release request refused by the Rennes court.

Release denied for 22-year-old trafficker
The Rennes criminal court rejected on Thursday 8 October 2026 a request for release of a 22-year-old man involved in a family drug trafficking network. According to actu.fr, the case, dubbed "Family Business" by investigators, will be heard in November 2026.
The defendant and his brother are alleged to have played a "predominant role" in this network operating in Saint-Erblon, Mauron, Languidic and Inzinzac-Lochrist. Between January and September 2026, between 60 and 70 customers per month visited family homes to buy cannabis and cocaine, generating between 3,000 and 3,500 euros monthly. The entire family was arrested on 8 September 2026.
At the hearing, the defence pleaded for the release of the young man, cited as a first-time offender with a clean record. His lawyer, Me Kévin Descamps-Guezou, emphasised that he had been "separated from his family" for a month and wished to be housed with a cousin in Saint-Malo. According to the defence, there was "no risk of reoffending" and the client remained "presumed innocent".
The state prosecutor raised several objections. She highlighted the absence of lawful employment at the time of arrest, the "risk of flight" linked to notable "geographical mobility", and the possibility of "collaboration" with co-defendants. She noted that the young man had ordered his parents to "change city", behaviour she described as "threatening retaliation".
The court sided with the prosecution. The defendant's parents, "suppliers" of the trafficking operation, have already been sentenced by guilty plea procedure to prison sentences with suspension. The young man will appear in custody in one month for violations of drug legislation and "unauthorised possession of category C weapons". During the search of the family home, investigators had discovered weapons, approximately 37,000 euros in cash and drugs.
