After-school violence in Paris: more than 15 families file complaints against Grégoire and Hidalgo

More than fifteen Parisian families are filing complaints against Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire and former mayor Anne Hidalgo for failure to assist minors. Since the beginning of 2026, 132 activity coordinators have been suspended by the City.

Collective complaints against the City of Paris for violence in after-school centres

More than fifteen families whose children attend school in several arrondissements of Paris are filing complaints against the City, Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire, former mayor Anne Hidalgo, as well as several former elected officials and municipal executives, according to Radio France - Justice.

The collective action is led by the MeToo School collective and denounces facts of failure to assist a person in danger and endangerment of minors within Parisian after-school structures.

A system under scrutiny, not just individuals

The families' lawyer, Maxime Delacarte, clarifies the scope of the action: "This complaint targets a system. The City of Paris knew, but it did not act to ensure the safety of our children. And this allowed sexual assaults, rapes and all the violence of the Parisian after-school sector to continue since 2015."

The complainants thus target a systemic failure by the municipality, which would have had knowledge of the facts without providing an appropriate response.

Two hundred criminal investigations underway in the capital

The situation in Paris is part of a national context: the twenty largest cities in France are all affected by investigations into violence in after-school provision. In the capital, more than two hundred criminal investigations are currently underway.

Since the beginning of 2026, the City of Paris has suspended 132 activity coordinators, including 52 for suspicions of sexual or sexist violence.

Action plan worth 20 million euros

In response to this wave of proceedings, the municipal team has announced an action plan worth 20 million euros. Emmanuel Grégoire's entourage indicates that he is at the disposal of the justice system.

Anne Hidalgo, for her part, acknowledged "mistakes" and estimated that there was "work to be done", according to statements reported by Radio France - Justice.
