Underage drug dealers in schools and playgrounds in Northern Suburbs – Two gangs dismantled
Two criminal groups operating in the Northern Suburbs of Athens were dismantled by the Drug Prosecution Unit. According to Gazzetta, the members of the gangs were quite young in age — including children as young as 14 years old — and are alleged to have supplied psychotropic substances to underage students as well.
The police operation revealed that the two gangs were operating mainly in Ekali and Dioniso. The perpetrators exploited spaces such as schools and playgrounds for the distribution of drugs, targeting adolescents and young people.
The case has caused considerable concern among parents and the local community, as it highlights the problem of addiction penetrating sensitive age groups. Authorities are continuing investigations to locate any additional parties involved and to ascertain the full extent of the groups' activity.
Those arrested were referred to the competent prosecutorial authorities, whilst police are examining possible connections between the two gangs and wider drug trafficking networks in the greater Athens area.
