Kalamata: 41-year-old remanded in custody for murder of wife with 45 knife wounds
The 41-year-old man accused of murdering his 39-year-old wife Vasiliki in Kalamata was remanded in custody following a unanimous decision by the investigating magistrate and prosecutor.

The 41-year-old man accused of murdering his wife in Kalamata was remanded in custody following a unanimous decision by the investigating magistrate and prosecutor. According to Politis, the decision was taken after an extended statement by the accused before the judicial authorities.
The 41-year-old entered the Kalamata Court Building shortly after 10:30 in the morning under heavy police escort. When leaving, he had his head bowed and was booed by a group of citizens who had gathered outside the courts.
He has been charged with premeditated murder in a calm mental state, domestic violence, breach of firearms legislation, and breach of personal data protection legislation.
According to the case evidence, the accused brutally murdered the 39-year-old Vasiliki with 45 knife wounds, whilst their two children, aged 10 and 6, were sleeping in the adjacent room.
During his statement, he allegedly claimed that his relationship with the 39-year-old had effectively ended in September last year and that they continued to live together while awaiting the completion of divorce proceedings. Regarding the night of the crime, he allegedly spoke of a prolonged argument, a physical altercation, and stated that "at some point things became a blur".
The accused also allegedly provided explanations for the recordings found, arguing that they were made for use in potential legal proceedings regarding custody of the children and not for monitoring his wife.
The accused's defence counsel, Giorgos Kamvysis, stated after the conclusion of proceedings that the judicial authorities now have a complete picture of the actual facts of the case, expressing the conviction that the competent court will issue a fair verdict when the case is tried.
