27-year-old from Rhodes released with travel ban – Three drug cases in the islands

The 27-year-old arrested for drug trafficking in Rhodes was released with a travel ban from the country after appearing before the investigating judge on Thursday. According to dimokratiki.gr, the case began with an anonymous telephone tip-off and resulted in arrest within a few hours.

The arrest in Rhodes on 29 May

In the afternoon of 29 May 2026, following evaluation of information that the 27-year-old was supplying cocaine and raw cannabis to dependent individuals for financial gain, police officers located him near his home shortly after 17:00. A body search found makeshift plastic packaging of cocaine with a mixed weight of 0.9 grams, ready for sale, as well as one mobile telephone.

At his residence, in a search conducted in the presence of a judicial representative, the following were found: a plastic container with raw cannabis of net weight 77 grams, a wooden box containing two packages of cocaine with mixed weights of 10.6 and 10.8 grams respectively, another package of 0.8 grams ready for distribution, a precision electronic scale in operation, and €4,250 in cash.

Based on local prices – €100 per gram of cocaine and €10 per gram of cannabis – the estimated illegal profit from distributing the substances would have reached €3,000. The prosecution assesses the coexistence of quantities, ready-made packages and cash as strong evidence of professional trafficking, particularly since the 27-year-old is shown to be unemployed.

The defence: personal use and lawful income

The defendant's defence was undertaken by lawyer Giorgos Kypraiios, who argued that the quantities were intended exclusively for personal use, as the 27-year-old is reported to be a user of cannabis and cocaine. Regarding the electronic scale, the defence attributed it to his professional status as a chef. The €4,250, according to him, came from salary, unemployment benefit and family allowance and was intended for renovation of his home. The defence also emphasised that the defendant has no previous convictions and intends to enrol in a rehabilitation programme.
