Ángelos Giannakópoulos, owner of the 'Choriátiko' bakery chain, was arrested on Sunday morning as part of an operation by the Organised Crime Directorate, according to moneyreview.gr.

The investigation began in January 2026 and concerns a network of approximately 200 companies through which fictitious transactions and tax fraud are alleged to have been carried out. The estimated damage to the state exceeds €100 million.

Among those arrested is an accountant, who is alleged to have played a central role in the structure of the criminal organisation under investigation. The case file includes offences of establishing a criminal organisation, fraud against the state, tax evasion and non-payment of VAT and insurance contributions.

According to the same sources, the investigation by the Greek FBI also uncovered the businessman's involvement in cases of pimping and human trafficking. It is being investigated whether an alleged strip club under his control is connected to incidents of sexual exploitation of women, who are allegedly promoted through online escort advertisements.

The investigations are ongoing and, according to the same information, further arrests are expected in the coming period.
