Man suspected of assault at Orbán's campaign tour event in Veszprém

Suspect questioned in connection with violence against Veszprém counter-protesters
Police in Veszprém county questioned a 25-year-old man as a suspect in connection with a charge of assault – the authority announced, citing a statement covered by 444.hu. The incident occurred at the end of March 2026 at the Veszprém stop of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's campaign tour. The authority indicated that further suspicions are expected in the coming period.
In video footage released by police, violent scenes are visible. In footage also published by Telex, Bertalan Gremsberger can be identified stepping several hundred metres away from Orbán's stage towards Dog Party counter-protesters and tearing a banner from their hands. Gremsberger is the secretary of Gábor Kubatov, a Fidesz party official, and was a regular participant at campaign tour events – he was not watching the event itself but was constantly making phone calls and coordinating. In response to Telex's questions, he simply denied the incident. It does not emerge from the police statement whether Gremsberger himself is being suspected.
As HVG also reported, at several locations on Orbán's campaign tour, people dressed in black attempted to keep counter-protesters away and prevent anti-Fidesz demonstrations. The authority's investigation is currently ongoing.
