A man in his twenties was apprehended in Kecskemét who was carrying crystal, and drug-administration equipment was also found at his residence. The suspect was formerly a contract soldier.
Former contract soldier arrested on drug trafficking charges in Kecskemét
The Military Chamber of the Szeged Regional Court ordered the remand in custody for one month of a former contract soldier suspected of drug trafficking, according to the Prosecutor's Office website.
Officers of the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters took action against a man in his early twenties on the evening of 20 February 2026 in Kecskemét. The driver was operating his vehicle without lights and weaving. During the arrest, police found crystal in the man's clothing and also in the vehicle he was using. Investigators conducted a search at the perpetrator's residence, where scales, bags, and other packaging materials used for drug administration were discovered. According to the suspicion, the man obtained a substance classified as a narcotic from an unknown person with the aim of making a material profit and selling it.
Because the suspect had previously served as a contract soldier, the Szeged Regional Investigation Prosecutor's Office questioned him regarding the suspicion of committing the offence of drug trafficking in a military service relationship. The man made no statement at his questioning as a suspect. The investigating prosecutor took him into custody and then moved for his remand in custody. On 24 February 2026, the court ordered the remand in custody of the suspect, who had no criminal record, for one month, taking into account the military disciplinary grounds, and the fact that there is a risk of flight, concealment, and reoffending. The suspect and his defence counsel announced an appeal against the decision.
The penalty for the offence in question ranges from 2 to 8 years' imprisonment. The suspect's military service relationship ceased during the proceedings.
