A thirty-year-old Budapest resident was placed in pre-trial detention after investigators discovered his collection of human remains. During a house search at his flat, police seized skulls, bones, brain, an entire lower limb, hand bones, a heart preserved in a glass jar, and prepared facial skin.
The man working at the hospital obtained human remains in two ways, according to police. He acquired some body parts directly from his workplace, while others he excavated from abandoned cemeteries in Hungary and Slovakia.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted that he not only stored the human remains but also prepared food from them, which he later consumed. According to Hungarian police, he was particularly attracted to parts of the human body from which he prepared food in various ways.
Investigators determined that the man had a keen interest in anatomy and pathology. He enjoyed dissecting animals and spoke about his hobby to family members and friends. He also took photographs of his collection.
During the house search, police seized computers, tablets, mobile phones, SIM cards and data storage devices. Police are now sending all remains found to a forensic expert for detailed examination.
The suspect faces charges of illegal treatment of human bodies.
