The Veszprém County Police Headquarters has opened a criminal investigation into Győr+Média Zrt. According to the suspicion, the company's management may have diverted significant public funds towards fictitious employment.

Bence Pintér, mayor of Győr, turned to the authorities at the end of April. During a financial inspection carried out by the new city leadership, it emerged that the local newspaper ceased operations shortly after the election, but before that had hired several individuals on its payroll who had not actually done any real work.

According to investigation data, the company had 93 employees on its books in 2025. This far exceeds the previously estimated headcount of 30-40 people. Upon review of the contracts, it became apparent that some of the employees were connected to family members or acquaintances of local governing party municipal representatives.

The Telex news portal reported on the developments.
