Seszták's confidant acted as money courier in corruption case
The Budapest Central District Court ruled on Friday on another detention in the criminal proceedings against Miklós István Seszták and associates, according to hang.hu. The suspect in question acted as a courier for the former national development minister's confidant, assisting in the receipt and transport of corruption money, according to a statement by the National Asset Recovery and Asset Protection Office (NVVH).
According to the authority, the suspect participated as an accomplice in the acceptance of bribes committed in conspiracy and for profit by a senior official, as well as in a similar criminal act by a person authorised to act independently. The court found the NVVH's motion to be well-founded and, citing the risk of flight, concealment and endangering of evidence proceedings, ordered detention for thirty days.
Miklós Seszták himself is also in pre-trial detention until the end of January. The NVVH suspects the former minister of accepting bribes: as development minister in the third Orbán government, he allegedly accepted bribes worth approximately 11 billion forints in connection with Volánbusz's overpriced vehicle purchases. The KDNP politician maintains his innocence.
