Milan local police officers before Court of Appeal: house arrest requested for embezzlement

Two suspended officers before Milan Court of Appeal over house arrest
The Milan Court of Appeal could rule today on the request for mitigation of the detention measure against Denni Dileo and Rosario Piscopo, officers of the Milan local police force who have been suspended and held in San Vittore prison since 6 August. As reported by Google News IT — Crime (it), the two are facing charges of embezzlement, falsifying documents and unlawful arrest.
Following a brief hearing, the defence lawyers declared themselves satisfied. Neither of the two defendants was present in court. The legal representatives requested revocation of the detention order or, alternatively, the granting of house arrest.
Lawyer Susanna Rita Marangoni, who represents Dileo, outlined the defence's position: "We have submitted written submissions. We have demonstrated, from our perspective, that there was no appropriation, which was the focus we concentrated on. The defence investigation has highlighted and reconstructed what the suspects had already stated, and we are confident that the measure will be revoked or at least mitigated." According to the lawyers, the forensic copy of the mobile phones would rule out the risk of tampering with evidence.
Lawyer Pietro Stimolo, who represents Piscopo, clarified: "We have submitted a supplementary written submission in which we argue that no embezzlement took place. The ruling should arrive this afternoon or tomorrow morning."
At the centre of the investigation coordinated by prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia is the arrest of an alleged drug dealer that took place in Corsico on 16 July. According to the prosecution, the officers of the so-called "small squad" allegedly appropriated €1,450 during the operation. The defence disputes this reconstruction.
Previously, Commissioner Ilenja Sabato had already obtained house arrest immediately after questioning before investigating judge Elio Sparacino. Last Saturday, the two other officers involved in the investigation, Vincenzo Compagnone and Mattia Rignanese, also obtained the same measure after appealing to the Court of Appeal.
