Trial for attempted murder on New Year's Eve in Ascoli
A trial has commenced before the Panel of the Ascoli Piceno Court against a 22-year-old facing charges of attempted murder, disfigurement through permanent facial injuries and assault for incidents that occurred on New Year's Eve 2026 outside a venue near the Pescatore monument. The defendant is in custody and faces additional charges including weapon use and trivial motives.
During the proceedings, the security officer at the venue gave crucial testimony. When the Panel president, judge Alessandra Panichi, asked him if the assailant was present in court, the witness pointed his finger at the young man seated in the front row next to his defence lawyer, lawyer Francesco Voltattorni. "It was him who struck me and the other boy with a knife, I have no doubts. I risked being killed over 70 euros," he declared according to what was reported by ilrestodelcarlino.it.
The officer explained that the 22-year-old and other young men were behaving badly, which is why they were asked to leave the venue. After a subsequent brawl, it seemed the situation had been resolved, but the defendant reappeared brandishing a knife. The witness, who filed a civil suit with assistance from lawyer Marianna Valentini Mucci, described how he protected another young man from the blade, sustaining a hand wound that required six days of medical certification. Then the assailant turned towards a second youth, striking him in the face.
The main victim, a boy from Pescara who was still a minor at the time, suffered serious injuries with an extensive facial wound, initially admitted to casualty and then to the maxillofacial ward at Torrette. He did not file a civil suit. When pressed to recount the events, he said he could not remember the details of what happened, saying he had been drinking since the afternoon and was unable to provide information about the assailant. Two further young men remain under investigation for the incidents of that night.
